Part- 3 – GENERAL ADMINISTRATION AND ACTIVITIES
In the year 1986, the National Education Policy identified Katihar district in Bihar for special emphasis on development and Education. The Ministry of Minority Affairs too pointed out that despite having enough potentiality, the Kosi region of Bihar is lagging much behind in utilizing its full potential and healthcare situation of this demographic location was a major concern. Looking into these concerns and in accordance with the recommendation of Sunil Mukherjee Committee & Mudaliar Committee, Al-Karim Educational Trust, Patna was established in the year 1986 and soon after that under the provisions of Article 30(1) of the Constitution of India, it sponsored and established Katihar Medical College on October 1987.
As the Bihar Private Universities Act emerged in 2013 under the stewardship of the Government of the State of Bihar, the wheels were set in motion for the birth of Al- Karim University. The culmination of these efforts came to fruition in 2018, when the university's establishment was granted official recognition. The impetus behind establishing the university was not confined solely to the growth of Katihar Medical College but the Management envisioned a larger scope, one that encompassed a spectrum of job-oriented programs tailored to meet the specific needs of Seemanchal region's residents, as well as the broader populace of the state and the nation.
Al-Karim University, standing strong for over six years since its establishment, draws significant strength from the enduring legacy of Katihar Medical College, which has been in existence since 1987. This rich foundation has set the stage for remarkable accomplishments. Among the highlights, the university currently boasts an impressive array of 51 programs, spread across four faculties: Medicine, Engineering and Technology, Pharmacy, and Nursing. Notably, the Faculty of Medicine has made strides by introducing PhD programs in eight specialized fields, enriching the landscape of research and advancement. Strong research infrastructure provides the foundation for the promotion of research and interdisciplinary collaboration.
In the spirit of celebrating academic accomplishments, the university has successfully conducted convocations for the past three years, providing a momentous platform for the graduating students. These convocations have become a resounding success, offering friends and families the opportunity to witness and commemorate the milestones achieved by their loved ones.
Beyond academic pursuits, the institution has undertaken multifaceted endeavours to enhance the overall student experience. The college’s efforts have resulted in an expansion of program capacities. Student Leadership Programs have been introduced to foster holistic development. State-of-the-art tennis courts and basketball facilities have
been crafted to encourage a spirit of healthy competition and camaraderie. Notably, a modern Blood Centre has been established, catering to a vital aspect of healthcare.
The journey forward holds promises of growth and innovation. Ambitious projects, including the construction of 12 Modular Operation Theatres, Endoscopy Suites, a Medical Simulation Lab, and a Sports Complex, are underway, underscoring the university's commitment to comprehensive development and providing a conducive environment for both education and well-being.
Al-Karim University holds steadfast to its vision, ingraining within its students not only skills but also the essential human values that they must carry with them for their personal growth and the betterment of society. This guiding principle permeates every facet of the university's program delivery and functioning, propelling it forward and providing unwavering inspiration to confront any challenges that may arise.
In unwavering alignment with its vision, the institution in stills a culture of accountability and ethics in every endeavour undertaken. Above all, there is a consistent commitment to fostering adaptability and empathy towards the ever-evolving landscape, ensuring a deep understanding of the needs of others.
The university's motto, "rabbi zidni ilma," drawn from the Holy Quran, encapsulates the aspiration for continuous knowledge expansion. This commitment to knowledge is evident in the diligent pursuit of relevant insights from the vast sea of global knowledge, which is then applied strategically to realize the institution's overarching vision.
Community service stands at the core of Al-Karim University's ethos. Evidencing this commitment, Katihar Medical College's hospital extends dietary services, nursing care, beds, and outpatient services free of charge. Numerous surgeries are conducted without cost, except for specialized outpatient services, specialized surgeries, investigations, ICU, and procedures which are offered at affordable rates. By immersing itself in community service, the university imparts invaluable lessons to its students and stakeholders, showcasing the profound impact of active engagement or observance on the collective mindset.

One of the most commendable aspects of the sports events this year was the display of sportsmanship and team spirit by the students. Several instances of exemplary behavior were witnessed, where students supported their teammates, respected their opponents, and maintained discipline throughout the events.
These qualities are essential in building a positive and inclusive sports culture at the university. The students' display of sportsmanship and team spirit has set a high standard for future participants and has contributed significantly to the success of the sports year.
Training programs for various sports were meticulously planned and executed under the guidance of the Sports Officer. Coaches played a crucial role in preparing the students, focusing on enhancing their skills, fitness, and strategic understanding of the games. Regular practice sessions and workshops were conducted to ensure the athletes were well-prepared for the competitions.
The training sessions were designed to cater to the specific needs of each sport, with a focus on physical fitness, technical skills, and strategic planning. The coaches worked closely with the students, providing personalized guidance and support to help them achieve their best.
Several challenges were faced during the sports year, including logistical issues, weather conditions, and injuries. Despite these obstacles, the events were conducted successfully with the support of the university administration, referees, volunteers, and the sports committee.
Moving forward, we aim to address these challenges by improving infrastructure, providing better medical facilities, and ensuring efficient event management. The feedback from students, coaches, and organizers will be taken into consideration to make necessary improvements for the future.
Feedback from students, faculty, and coaches has been overwhelmingly positive. Many participants have shared their experiences and the impact these events had on their personal and athletic growth. Testimonials highlight the importance of sports in fostering teamwork, discipline, and a sense of community.
Here are some of the testimonials from students and coaches:
These testimonials reflect the positive impact of sports on the students and highlight the importance of continued support and encouragement for sports activities at the university.
The sports year 2023-2024 at Al-Karim University, Katihar, was filled with remarkable achievements, spirited competitions, and invaluable experiences. The dedication and enthusiasm of the students, along with the support of the faculty and administration, have made this year a memorable one.
The various sports events provided a platform for students to showcase their talents, fostered a spirit of healthy competition, and promoted teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. The achievements of the students have brought pride to the university and set a high standard for future participants.
We look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence in the coming years, nurturing the talents and sportsmanship of our students. The lessons learned and the memories created this year will serve as a foundation for even greater success in the future.
