MBBS

1. The graduate medical curriculum (Competency Based Medical Education) is oriented towards training students to undertake the responsibilities of a “physician of first contact” who can look after the preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative aspect of medicine while maintaining global standard of care.

2. A medical student will undergo a period of certified study extending over a period of four and half academic years from the date of commencement of course to the date of completion of final examination, which shall be followed by one year of compulsory rotatory internship training.

3. Each academic year will have at least 240 teaching days with minimum of eight hours of involvement in teaching-learning activities.

4. There shall be one main examination at the end of each professional phase and a supplementary examination will be held not later than 90 days of publication of result of the main examination.

5. No more than four attempts shall be allowed to a candidate to clear the first professional examination. The total period for successful completion of first professional course shall not exceed four years. Partial attendance in examination of any subject will be counted as an attempt. A student shall not be entitled to graduate later than ten years of her/his joining the MBBS course.

6. Internal assessment: Internal assessment of students will be based on day to day assessment on the basis of involvement in various teaching learning activities in addition to regular periodic written theory and practical examinations held at regular intervals. There shall be no less than three internal assessment examination in each pre-clinical and para-clinical subjects and no less than two internal assessment examinations in each clinical subject in a professional year. Learner must secure at least 50% marks of total marks (combined in theory and practical/clinical); not less than 40% marks in theory and practical/clinical separately in order to be eligible to appear at the final university examination of that subject.

7. Attendance: 75% attendance is mandatory in foundation course held at the commencement of first professional phase to be eligible to sit at First professional phase university examination. Attendance in the any other subjects cannot be compensated for absence in foundation course. 75% attendance in theory classes and 80% attendance in practical/clinical is mandatory for each subject in all the phases. 75% attendance in electives and maintenance of logbook is mandatory to sit at the final Professional Part II examination. 75% attendance in Professional Development Programme (AETCOM Module) is required for eligibility to appear for final examination in each professional year.

8. All prevailing regulations of the university, college and National Medical Commission shall apply.

Candidates seeking admission in MBBS course in 2023-24 session have to take NEET-UG 2023 examination. No direct application for admission in MBBS course shall be entertained by the university or the college. NEET-UG 2023 examination is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) or agency authorized by the Central Government/NMC. For the purpose of admission, after qualifying the NEET-UG 2023 examination, the candidate must apply through BCECE Board, Government of Bihar.

Candidates must have passed 10+2/ISc or equivalent examination from a recognized board, council or university and must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Biotechnology taken together. Candidates should have passed English as a compulsory/core subject.

Candidates must fulfil the eligibility criteria as fixed by the appropriate authority to be eligible for admission in the MBBS course.

AGE: The age of the applicant should not be below 17 years as on 31^st December 2023.

ALLOCATION OF SEATS

Total number of seats in MBBS course: 150 (Recognised-100, Permitted-50)
a. Students belonging to Muslim Minority Community :50% of the total seats (75 seats)
b. Student belonging to General category : 35% of the total seats (52 seats)
C. NRI candidates :15% of the total seats (23 seats)

In case reserved seats are not filled up by candidates of the respective category, the remaining vacant seats will be filled up by the candidates from general category. However, NRI fee structure shall be applicable for the candidates joining vacant NRI seats.

The candidates shall undergo internship training at Katihar Medical College only.

On completion of successful internship training, it will be mandatory for selected candidates to serve the college for a minimum period of one year as Junior Resident or equivalent suitable post during which they will be paid salary at par with the salary of Junior Resident in Government of Bihar. Selection of candidates will be as per the existing requirements of the institution.

1. At the time of the admission while paying the fees for 1st year through Bank Draft/RTGS/NEFT, the candidates shall also have to furnish Bank Guarantee / Bond for payment of tuition fees for the remaining period of the course.

2. At the time of the admission, the candidates must pay Tuition fee, Development fee, Hostel fee, Student amenities and services fee and Refundable security deposit.

3. Tuition fee: Rs. 9,35,000/- (Rupees nine lakhs and thirty-five thousand) per annum.

For Non-Resident Indian, Foreign and other students admitted on seats reserved for NRI, the tuition fee shall be USD 25,000/- (USD twenty-five thousand) per annum. In case of payment of fee in Indian currency by NRI candidates, the USD conversion rate applicable on the date of payment of fee shall be payable.

4. Development fee: Rs. 1,20,000/- (Rupees one lakh and twenty thousand) per annum.

5. The tuition fee and development fee shall be charged for a total of 4 1⁄2 years.

6. Hostel Fee: Rs. 2,50,000/- (Rupees two lakhs and fifty thousand) per annum. Air-conditioned hostel is available for boys and girls students separately. It is mandatory for the students to reside in the university/college provided hostel. Hostel fee shall be charged for a total of 5 1⁄2 years. Students staying in the hostel for more than 5 1⁄2 years either due to failure in examination or extension of internship or any other reason shall be required to pay additional hostel fee for their additional stay. The extended duration shall be divided in a fraction of 6 or 12 months and accordingly fee shall be payable as per scheduled date every year.

7. Student Amenities and Services Fee: Rs. 50,000/- (Rupees fifty thousand) per annum (Transport, Sports, Gymnasium, Wi-Fi etc. as per policy of the college/university). Student Amenities and Services fee shall be charged for a total of 5 1⁄2 years. Students staying for more than 5 1⁄2 years either due to failure in examination or extension of internship or any other reason shall be required to pay additional Student Amenities and Services fee. The extended duration shall be divided in a fraction of 6 or 12 months and accordingly fee shall be payable as per scheduled date every year.

8. University Registration Fee: Rs. 18,000/- (Rupees eighteen thousand) payable once at the time of registration. The admitted students must obtain migration certificate from their last university and submit the same along with the registration fee to Al-Karim University within 3 months of admission.

9. Examination and Related Fee: Examination and related fee shall be charged as notified by the university.

10. Convocation fee: Convocation fee shall be charged after completion of course as notified by the university.

11. Refundable Security Deposit: All candidates are required to deposit Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rupees one lakh) as security deposit at the time of admission. This amount is refundable and shall be refunded after deducting dues, if any, after completion of the course.

12. Late Fine: Late fine @Rs. 500/- (Rupees five hundred) per day is applicable in case of late payment of prescribed fee after the end of month of June or due date as notified by the University every year. The students shall clear all their dues before university examination failing which they shall not be allowed to appear for the university examination.

13. A candidate once admitted in the institution shall not be allowed to leave the institution without paying every category of fees (Tuition, Development, Student Amenities and Services, and Hostel fees) for the remaining period of the MBBS course.

14. In accordance with clause 36(4) of the Bihar Private Universities Act 2013, all categories of fees are subject to revision every three years in accordance with the budgetary needs of the institution and general economic parameters. The fees shall be revised in 2024, and therefore the revised fees shall be applicable from academic year 2024-25 to the students admitted in session 2023-24.

Note: The above minimum fee structure is subject to condition that in case the fee of the 50% of the total seats is fixed at par with the fee of the Government Medical College of the State by the Government/fee regulatory authority, then the fee of the rest of the 50% of the total seats will be revised and the students shall pay the revised fee including the first year fee. It may kindly be noted by the authorities and the students that the matter of fee fixation on the 50% seats at par with the fee of the Govt. Medical College of the State would be subject to the outcome of Writ Petition (Civil) No. 682 of 2023 pending in the Hon’ble Supreme Court in which this college is Intervener Petitioner (I.A no. 138339/2023 and 138344/2023) and the State Government, Central Government and National Medical Commission are already party Respondents.

FEE CONCESSION

Fee concession shall be provided to twenty-five percent of the students who are domicile of Bihar and who belong to SC, ST, BC, EBC, Women and Economically Weaker Section. Fee concession shall be based on merit- cum-means as follows :-

(i) One-fifth of twenty-five percent shall be granted full fee concession;

(ii) two-fifth of the twenty five percent shall be granted fifty percent fee concession;

(iii) the balance two-fifth of the twenty five percent shall be granted twenty five percent fee concession.

The above fee concession shall be applicable only on tuition fee payable each year and the fee concession shall not be applicable on NRI seats.

To be eligible for fee concession, the applicants must have scored more than 60th percentile in the entrance examination (NEET) and the applicant's family must be below poverty line (BPL) entitled.

To be eligible for fee concession, the applicant must fulfil all four criteria.

Applicants who fit into the criteria must bring original and submit a self-attested photocopy of each of the following at the time of counselling:

i) Domicile certificate of Bihar issued by Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

ii) Proof, issued by the competent authority, that the applicant belongs to SC, ST, BC, EBC, or Economically Weaker Section.

iii) Proof, issued by the competent authority, that the applicant's family is below poverty line (BPL) entitled or BPL Ration Card.

Candidates will make full payment of fee at the time of admission. After closing date of admission, category-wise eligible candidates amongst the admitted candidates will be granted fee concession and their fee already paid will be either refunded or adjusted.

Note: Above fee concession will be granted subject to condition that in case the fee of the 50% of the total seats is fixed at par with the fee of Govt. Medical College of the State, then this concession will not be applicable.
